Owner's real name is Gary Higginson, although I have only ever known him under his pseudonym “Gary Higgs”. I originally hired Gary to do two small jobs to the roof of my flat and on completing them successfully, Gary ‘notified me’ of another problem. He then used a gently-gently approach to gain my trust and once he had this, he advised me that if this job wasn’t done then there would be serious structural implications for the entire flat and that it was incredibly urgent. Over 7 months, with unsightly scaffolding up around the property, we were held at ransom, bullied and essentially blackmailed in order to part with more money. As soon as I began to realize he was a fraudster, I confronted him about the lack of progress on the roof and where all the money I paid him had supposedly gone. I was initially met with aggression but then pretty soon after that, radio silence at which point he refused to speak with me. So in summary, he lied about the cause of the job (it didn't need doing), he then put up scaffolding outside my house for 7 months, the only work he ever did was to take tiles OFF my roof and just left the house bare, he then just got aggressive and then refused to turn up for work. I had to pay someone to re-tile the roof and take the scaffolding away.

Please contact me before even thinking about working with this guy. DONT WORK WITH THIS GUY!!!

Dreadful service. Gary Higginson (RedBud Roofing owner / sole trader) performed around half of the work agreed, took most of the money and then refused to finish the job. We were left with a half-finished roof for almost a year while we tried continually tried to get him to complete the work. When we complained about the quality of some of the work Gary became abusive.

Finally we sacked him and sued him for the money. We won a CCJ against him and he now owes us over £4000 and we will soon have the bailiffs chasing him.

Subsequently we had multiple other roofers inspect the work and quote to finish it. All said the quality of the work was terrible and had to be re-done.

Furthermore, he also ripped off the scaffolding company he was using by refusing to pay them and then moving to another part of the country. Our job was in London but now Gary also lives and operates in the Sheffield area - so beware.

Gary Higginson is a fraudster and conman. He has defrauded families using similar tricks described by the other reviewer. Over the past few years, he lived in at least 3 different addresses, using different company names and phone numbers to defraud customers, taking their money and switching to different addresses with the hope that he will get away with it.

A few known examples include Gary Higginson advertising as Protek Roofing, 49 Salisbury Road Pinner Middlesex London HA5 2NJ, 07762 109577 at protek-roofing.co.uk and arcs@talk21.com. There was a period he also claimed to be based in Green Lanes, Northwood, W3 6LN as well as Sheffield.

Gary then switched to Red Bud Roofing, 39 Tenzing Drive, High Wycombe HP13 7RT, 07532 308592 and used redbudroofing@hotmail.com as contact details.

Now he seems to have moved onto 39 Joseph Avenue, Acton, London W3 6LN, trying to drum up more customers to defraud via 07949 913600 and redbudroofers@gmail.com.

DO NOT GIVE A PENNY TO GARY HIGGINSON - he is a liar through and through and will use every trick in the book to make honest and trusting customers depart with their cash and run away as fast as he could.

Gary Higginson has been taken to court by his customers and judgments against him are available for the members of the public to see as public record.

My neighbour recommended Gary from Red Bud Roofing after he did a small job for her. We met Gary and were impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm for Victorian buildings. However, he was a huge disappointment.

The quote and the amount of work to be done grew rapidly once we paid the deposit, which was fine as we felt he was identifying issues that needed to be addressed, and we wanted to take advantage of the scaffolding at the site. We agreed for him to tackle all of the tasks he quoted for, and pay him accordingly.

Gary started all the different jobs, but didn't actually complete anything during the 3 months he worked on our building, other than some painting.

At the 3 month point, and to try to resolve the job, we agreed a payment/work plan with Gary, since by that stage we had paid over 70% of the quoted amount and were not seeing any of the tasks actually completed. He agreed to the work plan, but was not able to meet any of the milestones, so we refused to make further payments until we saw completion on the tasks.

We had Gary's subcontractors chasing and threatening us for money for unpaid work that Gary was responsible for paying, which was included in our quote. Gary left us with the scaffolding bill, which was also supposed to be included in the quote.

Gary consistently left the building site in a mess, did not arrive at the job site until late afternoon (according to him he caught the bus to/from our job from Sheffield), and was unprofessional and abusive in later emails.

We had to hire another builder to complete the work Gary started. The builder informed us Gary had recommended and started work that was not necessary and had used sub-standard materials. The second builder advised that the roof did not need repair work in the first place, and had instead been damaged by Gary's attempts, which had to rectified, costing us several thousand more.

I would not hire him again or recommend him to anyone.
