I engaged Aladdin Decorators to decorate one bedroom in our house. The room had been plastered new and had had a new doorframe, architraves and skirting boards put in. John Townsend the proprietor quoted for a 2 day , 2 man job promising to thoroughly prepare all surfaces, making good all cracks and holes with fillers and rubbing down smooth, to ceilings, cove and walls apply one mist coat and then 2 full coats. To the woodwork apply 2 coats.
He turned up on the agreed day with 4 men all working around each other in a 12" x 10" room (4mx3m). He never put down any rags to protect the stairs and entrance where he and his men moved in and out. They managed to rush the job so much that they finished in just 6 hours. I just found out that he never primed the wall with the mist coat as we would expect, as a bit of the plaster around the electrical sockets cracked and it's apparent that there is no white primer on it. They just used the full colour on the wall. Hairs from the brushes where left on the doorframe and fingerprints on the window seal on the fresh paint. The joints on the cove and skirting boards are visible even after one of his men returned to rectify all of these mistakes. This is a decorator that claims to have 30 years experience. John charged me £482.19 for a incredibly rushed and poorly finished job, and when I complained about obvious mistakes he called me fussy.
