Thought I 'd ordered a watch strap for a vintage watch but after several weeks of silence chased it up only to find nobody knew anything about it and appeared very disinterested.
In the interim took some jewellery in for valuation for insurance, potential redesign and possible sale.Was told in a very patronising manner that none of it worth listing on the contents policy.I left an opal ring and a Victorian brooch to see if they could be sold.On my return 2 weeks later the "valuation" for purchase was £40 and £60 respectively - written on a torn off piece of paper. As the ring had been valued in the 1980s at £400 I was surprised. Two further jewellers have now confirmed that the stone is a rare Mexican fire opal worth at least £1500.
Needless to say I am working with another jeweller who appreciates my business and whom I can trust.
